Is there latex in your products or in this product in particular? I am currently using this product on some sutures that I just had and I am itching like nobody’s business. I’m highly allergic to latex.

To answer your question directly: Medline Sterile Bordered Gauze is labeled as "Latex-Free" and is not made with natural rubber latex.

However, because you are having a severe reaction, it is likely caused by a sensitivity to medical adhesives. Many patients who are allergic to latex also react to the acrylic adhesives used in the "border" of these dressings. This can cause contact dermatitis, which feels very similar to a latex allergy. It is also possible that surgical prep solutions (like Betadine or Chlorhexidine) are trapped under the dressing, causing irritation.

Recommended Next Steps:

Contact Your Surgeon: Since you have fresh sutures, call your doctor immediately. They need to ensure the itching is an allergic reaction and not a sign of infection.

Switch to "Gentle" Options: Ask your doctor about using a silicone-bordered dressing (such as Medline Optifoam Gentle) or non-adhesive gauze secured with paper tape, both of which are designed for highly sensitive skin.

This has a adhesive boarder. Can I shower with it and will it keep the water out?

Crucial Clarification:

NOT Waterproof: This dressing is generally not 100% waterproof. Do not soak it in a tub or pool.

Check the Seal: After showering, immediately check the entire adhesive border. If the edges are lifting or you see any moisture under the dressing, replace it immediately to prevent contamination.
